Introducing the Walnut Pi CM2: A Budget-Friendly Alternative to the Raspberry Pi CM5

The Walnut Pi CM2 has emerged as an affordable alternative for enthusiasts and developers looking for a Raspberry Pi CM5-compatible Compute Module. Powered by the Allwinner T527 octa-core Cortex-A55 processor, this module supports configurations with up to 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 16GB of eMMC flash storage, along with an optional wireless module.
This innovative design essentially repurposes the Walnut Pi 2B single-board computer into a Compute Module format, providing access to I/O through two 100-pin high-density connectors. Notably, the Walnut Pi CM2 includes advanced features such as WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, and a Gigabit Ethernet PHY, all while maintaining a compact size.
While the Allwinner T527 offers a solid performance, it does not quite match the power of the Broadcom BCM2712 found in the Raspberry Pi CM5. Additionally, it's important to note that the Walnut Pi CM2 is only partially electrically compatible with other Raspberry Pi CM5 modules. Overall, it presents a compelling option for budget-conscious developers looking to explore new projects.
