Connecting the ADXL345 Accelerometer to Arduino

The ADXL345 is a three-axis accelerometer with ±2, ±4, ±8, and ±16 g ranges and I2C or SPI communication. At rest it measures the gravity component along each axis.

Voltage and wiring

The IC uses roughly 2.0–3.6 V supplies and low-voltage I/O. GY-291 boards differ in regulator and level shifting, so do not apply 5 V logic until the actual board schematic is checked.

Calibration

Calibrate offset and scale on every axis using known orientations, and select an appropriate range and data rate. Gravity can estimate tilt relative to vertical, but it cannot provide absolute yaw without another sensor.

Limits

This setup is suitable for learning and motion experiments, not a certified crash or seismic safety instrument without additional design, testing, and standards work.

Engineering review: verify the library version, module operating voltage, and the actual board pinout before wiring; visually similar breakout boards can differ.
