An Arduino and DS3231 can trigger reminders from a user-entered schedule, but the project must not prescribe a dose or time. The authoritative source is the clinician, pharmacist, and medicine instructions.
Hardware and schedule
Use a DS3231, display, buzzer, setup and acknowledgement buttons, and a suitable RTC backup battery. Let the user enter and edit the prescribed schedule instead of embedding generic dose times in code.
Alert behavior
Show the user-entered reminder, repeat the alert for a bounded period, and log acknowledgement or a missed event. Do not add directions such as “take with water” unless they are part of that user's documented instructions.
Safety limits
This is an educational prototype, not a medical device or the sole medication-management aid. Test power loss, battery state, buttons, and clock behavior, and provide a backup plan and a clear fault indication.
