Renesas Unveils New Ultra-Low-Power Cortex-A55 MPUs for HMI and IoT

Renesas has launched its latest additions to the RZ/G Series with the introduction of the RZ/G3L and RZ/G3SE microprocessor units (MPUs). These 64-bit processors are tailored for human-machine interface (HMI) and Internet of Things (IoT) edge systems, showcasing remarkable energy efficiency and performance capabilities.

Both models are equipped with up to four Arm Cortex-A55 application cores, operating at speeds of up to 1.2 GHz, along with a 200 MHz Arm Cortex-M33 real-time coprocessor. While the RZ/G3L variant includes an Arm Mali-G31 3D GPU and H.264 video codec for applications requiring rich graphical interfaces, the RZ/G3SE is stripped of these features, making it ideal for simpler IoT devices such as electric vehicle chargers and industrial gateways.

One of the standout features of these processors is their ultra-low power consumption, with standby power levels dropping to approximately 1 mW. This capability allows devices to maintain connectivity while consuming minimal energy, making them suitable for a wide range of applications in the industrial sector.
