Pine64 Halts Production of Linux Devices Amid RAM and eMMC Shortages

Pine64, known for its innovative Linux-based hardware, has decided to suspend the manufacturing of its Linux devices in light of the current shortages and escalating prices of RAM and eMMC flash memory. This decision marks a significant shift for the company, which has been a key player in the development of various Arm and RISC-V Linux single-board computers (SBCs), smartphones, tablets, and e-Readers since the introduction of the Pine A64 development board in 2015.

Historically, Pine64 has been proactive in launching multiple products each year, but this year has seen a notable reduction in announcements, with only the PineVoice smart speaker being introduced. This device, however, does not run Linux and is instead powered by a BL602 RISC-V microcontroller. The community announcement, shared via Telegram, emphasized that there are no immediate plans to resume Linux device production due to the ongoing supply chain challenges.
