Connect Multiple Temperature Sensors and Display Readings on a Web Server

Engineering illustration: Connect Multiple Temperature Sensors and Display Readings on a Web Server

This project extends the idea of showing a single sensor's reading on a web page to cover several DS18B20 temperature sensors at once, relying on the 1-Wire protocol's ability to host more than one device on the same line.

Components needed

An ESP32 board, several DS18B20 sensors (as many as the project needs), a 4.7k-ohm pull-up resistor, and connecting wires.

Wiring it up

All sensors connect in parallel to the same three lines: power pins (VDD) tied together to 3.3V, ground pins (GND) tied together, and signal pins tied together to GPIO15 on the ESP32. A single 4.7k-ohm pull-up resistor between the signal line and power keeps data transmission stable for all sensors at once.

How it works

Each DS18B20 carries a unique factory-programmed 64-bit serial address, letting the system tell each sensor apart even though they share the same data line, with no extra wiring complexity. The code queries each sensor individually by its unique address and reads its temperature independently, then displays all the readings together on a single web page that can be opened from any browser on the same local network.
