This quick guide gathers five essential sensors — most of which we've covered in detail in standalone articles before — into a single reference to help you quickly pick the right sensor for your project.
Flame Sensor
Detects the infrared light emitted by fire with both digital and analog outputs and adjustable sensitivity, used mainly in fire-alarm systems — see our standalone article on fire detection for full details and wiring.
Sharp IR Distance Sensor
Measures distance without contact across a 10-80cm range, and smartphones use it to prevent accidental screen touches during calls — we detailed its use in robotics in an earlier article.
Rain Sensor
Detects water droplets and measures rainfall intensity, and cars use it to activate wipers automatically at a rate proportional to the rain amount — we built an automatically closing window project on it in a standalone article.
MPU-6050 (Accelerometer/Gyroscope)
A six-axis sensor communicating over I2C to measure acceleration and angular velocity, used in portable devices and motion-control systems — we've built more than one project on it (a digital protractor and a self-balancing robot) in earlier articles.
TTP223B Touch Sensor
A capacitive switch acting as a digital replacement for traditional push buttons, with adjustable sensitivity, an LED indicator, and a response time between 60 and 220 milliseconds depending on the operating mode — we detailed its use with a servo motor in a standalone article.
You can find all of these sensors at Juthour Tech.
